I started my Quebec trip in the city of Montreal, Canada's second-largest city, it is a vibrant blend of French and English cultures, offering a rich tapestry of experiences from its historic cobblestone streets to its lively festivals and diverse culinary scene.
The next morning, I had a short walk from my hotel to the McCord Stewart Museum, which offers a variety of exhibitions that delve into Montreal's rich history and cultural diversity. These include Art, Dress, Fashion and Textiles, Indigenous Cultures and Photography collections. It is well worth a visit before heading into other areas of the city.
I then had a short distance to the Ateliers & Saveurs, which is a renowned culinary school situated in the Time Out Market Montreal and offers hands-on cooking, cocktail, and wine tasting classes. I took part in a cooking class for lunch and made a fresh and vibrant chicken salad which included many local ingredients and produce, very tasty.
My first evening took me to Old Montreal and the Notre-Dame Basilica to watch the Aura experience, which is a captivating 45-minute multimedia light and sound show. It really was a spectacle worth seeing in such a wonderful old historic building. After the show I walked the cobbled streets of Old Montreal and found a great little brasserie (Le Mignon Steak Restaurant) and sampled some local oysters and had one of the best steak frites I have ever had!
Pascal, our guide for the morning picked me up from my hotel and I had a half day tour of Montreal, I took in Mount-Royal Park that overlooks the city skyline with some great views, the Port of Montreal and some local markets in the vibrant Plateau neighbourhood. The Plateau is a haven for food enthusiasts, offering a diverse culinary scene. Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Saint-Denis Street are lined with trendy boutiques, vintage shops, cafés, and restaurants where I had a delicious lunch. Later in the afternoon I did a 2 hour bike tour and visited the Old Town, Port and Grand Prix circuit…thankfully the route is mostly flat as it was a very hot day!

On my next day I ventured out of the city and into the Quebec countryside. I drove the 90 minutes to Le Baluchon Eco Resort, which is a sustainable retreat nestled in the heart of Quebec's Mauricie region near Saint-Paulin. Set on 1000 acres of pristine forest and farmland, this eco-village offers a harmonious blend of nature, wellness, and local heritage. There are so many activities that you can get involved with at the resort, from: hiking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, archery, tennis, volleyball, horseback riding, dog sledding, yoga, and private carriage rides. My evening meal in the Dining Room provided an elegant experience, featuring a four-course menu inspired by Quebec’s forest gastronomy.
Continuing my adventure, I did a full day tour of La Mauricie National Park, it is a stunning natural reserve situated in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec. It boasts over 150 lakes and numerous ponds, providing habitats for a variety of wildlife. The forests leaves were just starting to turn colour and the various viewing points I stopped at throughout my day really did show the best panoramic landscapes the park has to offer.
My last day took me further into the wilderness to the stunning Hotel Sacacomie, surrounded by a wildlife reserve and overlooking the serene Sacacomie lake, it offers a perfect blend of nature, relaxation, and adventure. I took off from the water on a seaplane tour that soared over the nature reserve below for 30 minutes, just amazing! I then went on the hotels most popular Beaver and Bear tour which was 2 hours waiting and eventually catching a glimpse of both these amazing animals.
Overall, I would say my trip was a nice blend of one of Canada’s most cosmopolitan and vibrant cities and with Quebec’s countryside on its doorstep it is definitely worth hiring a car and venturing out to see Quebec’s wild side!
