Day 9 - Tracy Arm

Tracy Arm is a breathtaking, narrow fjord that winds deep into the Tongass National Forest, flanked by towering granite cliffs that rise hundreds of feet above the water. As snow and ice melt from the surrounding peaks, countless waterfalls tumble down the rock faces, while hardy trees cling to steep outcrops at surprising angles. Keep watch for wildlife along the shoreline and in the icy waters, this area is home to black and brown bears, wolves, deer, moose, seals, and whales. At the head of the fjord, the spectacular Sawyer Glaciers come into view, framed dramatically by rugged mountain scenery.

Later, arrive in Juneau, Alaska’s captivating capital, accessible only by air or sea. Set between the Coast Mountains and the Gastineau Channel, Juneau is surrounded by forests, waterways, and alpine landscapes. With the immense Mendenhall Glacier and the Juneau Icefields nearby, and the Tongass National Forest stretching to the northeast, the scenery is as impressive as the experiences on offer. Spend time exploring the downtown shops and restaurants, or choose from adventures such as dog sledding, hiking, whale watching, and much more.

Day 10 - Skagway

Skagway played a pivotal role during the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush, and its frontier spirit still lives on today. Take time to wander through town and explore the beautifully preserved historic district, with restored buildings and wooden boardwalks in the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. For a memorable experience, consider riding the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, a classic narrow-gauge journey through spectacular scenery and round off your visit with a stop at the legendary Red Onion Saloon.

Day 11 - Glacier Bay

Glacier Bay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects an extraordinary ecosystem where wildlife thrives alongside a constantly shifting glacial environment. This remarkable region is home to more actively calving tidewater glaciers than anywhere else on Earth. Watch as enormous slabs of ice break away and crash into the sea, sending towering sprays of water high into the air. Keep your camera ready, the spectacle is unforgettable, and it can happen again at any moment.

Day 12 - Ketchikan

Built along the edge of the Tongass Narrows, Ketchikan is a colourful waterfront town where many homes and shops perch above the sea on wooden stilts. With weathered stairways linking the hillside streets and a friendly, upbeat atmosphere, it’s easy to see why it proudly calls itself the Salmon Capital of the World. Highlights include Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park, and Saxman Village. For a truly unforgettable experience, consider a flightseeing tour to Misty Fjords National Monument, where deepwater fjords carved by glaciers reveal soaring granite cliffs, tranquil inlets, and waterfalls cascading into still waters below.
