Spring (April–June): Wildlife emerges, snow may linger, fewer crowds.
Summer (July–August): Warm weather, peak bear viewing, Calgary Stampede.
Autumn (September–October): Foliage, fewer tourists, shoulder season savings.
Winter (December–March): Ski season, snow adventures.
Finding the ‘best’ time to go to Canada really depends on several factors such as your budget, your comfort level, your availability, and your interests.
At the end of April and the beginning of October, temperatures can still be colder as Canada comes out, or goes into, winter. For example, some lakes can still be frozen until mid-June, so you don’t get that mesmerising aqua, turquoise colour you’ve maybe seen in pictures.
By the middle of the season it can be beautifully warm, even at higher altitudes. Wildlife also comes out to play with the rising temperatures, as spring turns into summer. Animals begin to come to life and become more active as they align themselves with the new growth of their surrounding areas. This activity and heat peaks in July and August, and by the end of August you’ll see a flurry of activity including bears hunting salmon by the rivers – bear lodges are at their busiest!
That said, wildlife can be seen throughout the season with small bears, wolves, elk and whales still being active with the thaw. Coupled with this, at the earlier part of the season, the Rocky Mountains can look particularly lovely with their snow-capped peaks adding to the dramatic scenery.
Weather and wildlife aside, the influx of people also grows as the season progresses, especially when you start to factor in the summer holidays of international passengers. The Calgary Stampede, typically mid-July, can also give a spike in travellers as they, and their cowboy hats, move to the area to see the infamous chuckwagons races and rodeos.
The winter activity and ski season generally runs from mid-December to March and at times into April.

This of course depends on when you travel. We advise always checking the weather forecast before your trip and pack accordingly. As a general guide we recommend packing layers.
Canada’s weather varies by region and time of year. Coastal cities like Vancouver are milder year-round, while mountain areas and the east can be hot in summer and snowy in winter. We always recommend checking the local forecast before departure, and packing layers for changing conditions.

The standard voltage is 110-120 V. European/UK plugs are not compatible with Canadian electrical sockets therefore to plug in your electric appliances, you will need a plug adapter or a converter. In general, an adapter is all you need for non-motorized appliances for examples camera chargers, phone chargers, laptops, etc however a converter is necessary if you intend to use appliances with a motor, such as a hairdryer or an electric razor. Note that a converter can also be used as an adapter; there is no need to buy both.

Rocky Mountaineer wheelchair acessablity
Rocky Mountaineer provides wheelchair accessibility for guests who do not use a wheelchair full-time. A hydraulic lift allows you to board the train in your own wheelchair, provided it is 23 inches wide or less to fit through the doorway. Once on board, Rocky Mountaineer can transfer you to a 15-inch-wide wheelchair designed for easier movement along the railcar aisle.
For guests who use a wheelchair full-time, Rocky Mountaineer facilitates boarding via a hydraulic lift or ramp. Your wheelchair must be 23 inches wide or less to fit through the doorway. Full-time wheelchair users can be accommodated in SilverLeaf Service, where tie-downs secure your wheelchair for the journey. Meals will be served at your seat, and you will be assigned to a train car equipped with an ADA-compliant washroom featuring wider doorways and grab bars for added convenience.
After you have comfortably boarded the train, your wheelchair will be transported separately to your destination ready for you when you arrive. Wheelchairs will need to be able to fold down into pieces of 50lbs or less for the health and safety of the employees transporting them.
In 2026 the FIFA World Cup will be played across Canada, USA and Mexico. Vancouver and Toronto will host some of the games. The opening game kicks off 11th June and the final will be played on the 19th July. If you want to avoid the football-related crowd, aim for a visit either before June 10 or after July 8 in Vancouver and Toronto. This will help you avoid the peak activity tied to the World Cup, and you'll have a quieter, more relaxed experience.
June 13, 2026 to July 8, 2026: Vancouver will host group stage matches and knockout rounds. The city will be very busy with fans, particularly around BC Place and nearby hotels and attractions.
June 11, 2026 to July 2, 2026: Toronto's group stage matches and a Round of 16 game will draw large crowds. Popular areas like downtown and near BMO Field will be heavily populated by tourists and fans.
We are currently unable to book any travel during the World Cup dates until approx July/August 2025. However we can book travel outwith dates that the games are played in Vancouver and Toronto.
