Electronic Travel Authorisation - Canada

The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an authorization that is electronically linked to a traveller’s passport to allow them to enter Canada. It is similar to systems in place for travel to the USA and Australia.

You can apply for an eTA at www.canada.ca/eta.
It costs CAD$7 for the application.

Most applications are approved within minutes, but it may take longer if you are required to submit documents, so we recommend applying as soon as you have booked your flights.

An eTA can be valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever is sooner. If you get a new passport, you will need to get a new eTA. With a valid eTA you can travel to Canada as often as you want for short stays (normally for up to six months at a time) within the five year period.

There is no need to print off your eTA approval. You will receive an email letting you if you have been approved. This is now linked to your passport and when you go through the airport, it will show your eTA to staff.
