Whitehorse is your gateway to Yukon’s great outdoors
The capital of the province is nicknamed “Wilderness City” as it is the gateway to the great outdoors of Yukon. Whitehorse is a small city but it’s an ideal base offering shops, restaurants, heritage buildings, and has maintained the charm of its gold rush history. Sitting alongside the Yukon River, when you leave the city it won’t take long for you to reach untouched wilderness amid breathtaking landscapes. To the north of the city, the Yukon Wildlife Preserve is worth a visit and here you will be able to see animals including bison and moose.

Explore the natural wonders of Kluane National Park and Reserve
This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts some of the signature beauty of Yukon. Situated in the southwest of the province, it is one of the largest parks in Canada and is home to Mount Logan – the country’s highest peak and the second highest in North America. From majestic glaciers and glistening lakes to views that will take your breath away, the park is the perfect location for those who can’t help but fall in love with the great outdoors. Spend time in the Reserve enjoying activities including hiking, fishing and canoeing. In winter, Kluane transforms and visitors can experience excursions such as dog sledding – a special Canadian adventure. A variety of animals are at home here – keep your eyes peeled for bears, moose and wolves among many others.

Dawson City presents a golden opportunity to immerse yourself in history
This historic town, situated on the Yukon River, is known for its role in the Klondike Gold Rush towards the end of the 19th century. Joining a tour gives you the chance to experience your own quest searching for gold and provides you with a sense of Dawson’s fascinating history. It is a National Historic Site of Canada and during your time here you can visit several museums. The Dawson City Museum tells the story of the Gold Rush and how miners once searched for their fortune before the population dropped sharply after it ended in 1899. The significance of Dawson City, however, and its role in Canada’s history remains to this day.

Prepare for unforgettable experiences in a province for all seasons
There are adventures to be enjoyed and new memories to be made no matter when you choose to visit Yukon throughout your holiday in Canada. During the summer, the days are long meaning you can make the most of your time in the great outdoors. There are endless activities to experience in the dramatic landscapes and wilderness that cover the province. From hiking and cycling, to canoeing and rafting on the rivers and lakes, there’s something for everyone. Winter sees Yukon transform and you can experience the thrill of dog sledding or embark on a trek along snow trails. One of Yukon’s main highlights is the chance to spot the Northern Lights. The vast, open spaces ensure there is little light pollution throughout the province, meaning you have a great opportunity to catch sight of this spectacular natural phenomenon. Visiting during the darker months between October and April offers the best chance to see the Aurora Borealis.
