The Chichen Itza is believed to have been built in 400s AD, the name of the city means ‘At the edge of the well of the Itzaes’. The city is the best place to visit and learn about Mayan culture and history as this sacred site is one of the greatest Mayan centres in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Throughout its one-thousand-year-old history many different peoples have left its mark on the city between the Mayan and the Toltec this created a blend of the two different cultures creating the dived in Old Chichen. Chichen Itza is where you can find six Mayan Ruins in the Old Chichen section and about twenty Mayan Ruins in the New Chichen or Chichen Itza, making it a total of twenty-six Mayan Ruins to see on the Mayan Site. The fusion of Mayan construction techniques with new elements from central Mexico make Chichen-Itza one of the most important examples of the Mayan-Toltec civilization in Yucatán.
The main Mayan Ruin is the Chichen Itza Pyramid or El Castillo, but there are other equally as important as El Caracol or Observatory, The Temple of The Warriors and the Mayan Ball Game. The Chichen Itza is a protected site as it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
