Ski Lake Louise
A ski holiday in Lake Louise will guarantee some fantastic scenery and plenty of wildlife. This goes hand in hand with amazing skiing and snowboarding. The lake itself sits under the Victoria Glacier and is just stunning. The Tri-area lift ticket gives you access to over 7,500 acres of skiing and boarding throughout Lake Louise, Sunshine and Banff. The village of Lake Louise is made up of a few hotels and condos and it just a couple of miles to the lifts. The views from Chateau Lake Louise are spectacular. With direct flights to Calgary and a 2 hour transfer, the Lake Louise area is a popular choice for a ski holiday in Canada.
The Lake Louise ski area is made up of a mixture of high, open slopes and low trails through the forests. There are free guided tours that run throughout the day which are excellent to give you an idea of the best places to ski. The beginners area near the base is a popular place to start for those first turns before progressing onto Pinecone Way. There are also 'slow skiing zones' around the powder bowls which are great for beginners who don't want to miss out on the views. Intermediates will find that almost half of the runs in Lake Louise are classified as intermediate so plenty of fun well-groomed cruising runs for blasting down. Experts will find some black-diamond trails in and above the trees and some fantastic steep terrain in the bowls. A guide is absolutely essential for any backcountry touring as there is no avalanche control outwith the boundaries. Powder hounds will be able to find fresh tracks in the back bowls. Snowboarders will love the natural terrain for free-riding. There is also a terrain park with a rail and jib area.
There are several good bars at the foot of the slope for some apres ski in the afternoon. Off the slopes, Lake Louise is a perfect setting for those that don't want to ski all day long.
The Kokanee Kabin has live music in the Spring afternoons. The Outpost Bar offers a warm welcome while Explorers Lounge is a nice little pub. Later on in the evening the Glacier Station in Chateau Lake Louise often has live music till late on.
There are a variety of restaurants to choose from including some very good ones in hotels. Try the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House - a bit of a hike but well worth it. The Walliser Stube provides good food at a reasonable price. A bit of a hidden gem is the Lake Louise Station Restaurant - try the steak.
The area is just stunning and a perfect setting for snowshoeing, ice skating, ice canyon walks, sleigh rides, dog sledding and snowmobiling
