You would never expect in the heart of Ontario’s most famous wilderness, to be indulged in comfort. Algonquin Park provides over 7,700 square kilometers of forests, lakes and rivers of unspoiled beauty. The sound of the loons drifting over the lake, a moose taking a leisurely stroll through the lily pads, a beaver building a dam or any of the many other spectacular sights provide memories to last a lifetime.
Who could ask for more?
At Killarney Lodge and in Algonquin Park, whether you are looking to be active or rest and relax, there’s something for everyone.
Hiking Take a leisurely walk and explore the surroundings. For the more adventurous, hike one of the Park’s many trails offering spectacular views. There are 15 self-guided trails with various locations and lengths. Each trail is designed to explore a different aspect of the Algonquin Park environment and is well marked for easy navigation. At each trailhead, there is an interpretive guide booklet for your appreciation of the trail’s points of interest.
Biking -Rent one from the nearby Lake of Two Rivers Store and ride two great bicycle paths. One is the rugged Minnesing Trail the other is at Mew Lake. The latter is an easy ride on an abandoned railway bed from the now-defunct Ottawa, Arnprior and Parry Sound Railway.
Fishing Lake of Two Rivers is for small mouth bass and lake trout (in seasons). Bait and tackle can be obtained at the nearby Two Rivers Store. Only lures and worms are allowed in Algonquin Park.
Wildlife - Observe moose, beaver, fox, loons, turtles, deer, ducks and other wildlife in their natural environment. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars. Take a short paddle ride, or set off for a day long adventure by canoe with a delicious packed lunch.
Just Take it Easy Relax on the deck of your cabin, the guest lounge, or on our private sandy beach and watch the loons, beavers, and ducks, or read a book and/or doze the day away.
Gaze at the stars, listen to the sound of the wind whistling through the tall pines, breathe in the fresh country air, or meet other guests and share your experiences of the day.
Visit the Algonquin Logging Museum and let the story of logging from an era gone by, come to life.
Tour the Visitor Centre. Regularly scheduled programs for children offer a learning experience about Algonquin’s wildlife through an hour of discovery with games, stories and animals. Adults will enjoy the world class exhibits, an excellent bookstore, a theatre presentation and finally, the observation deck which provides a breathtaking panorama of the wild Algonquin Park landscape.
