Long before European explorers made their way to the Pacific Northwest, Cape Mudge on picturesque Quadra Island was called Tsa-Kwa-Luten, which means "gathering place" in the Kwak'wala language.
Today the Laichwiltach people have conceived and built a modern, full-service beach-front lodge where their ancestors once lived, hunted, and fished the salmon-rich Discovery Passage.
Tsa-Kwa-Luten is one of the few lodges featuring authentic Pacific Coast native architecture, art, and culture based on traditional Kwagiulth historical values. The lodge exudes the warmth of west coast wood construction and features the design of a Kwagiulth "Big House" as the main foyer and lounge area.
The Hama Elas dining room, lounge area, and terrace provide guests with an interesting and carefully chosen menu, an array of gourmet west coast cuisine in an atmosphere of casual elegance.
All dining areas offer spectacular mountain and ocean views. While patrons enjoy meals, there are common sightings of deer foraging on the grounds and bald eagles or other fauna. And there are the regular cruise ships that traverse the Discovery Passage directly in front of the lodge.
Tsa-Kwa-Luten Lodge is located on beautiful Quadra Island, one of British Columbia's premiere recreation destinations.Surrounded by stunning scenery, the island provides numerous possibilities that include sea kayak tours, marine tours, hiking trails, cycling, sport fishing, diving, grizzly tours in the fall, and much more. The local community is rich in arts and culture. Local artisans display their crafts in various galleries and elsewhere.
It is impossible to create a comprehensive list of activities on Quadra. There is an excellent local winery near Tsa Kwa Luten, and 10 minutes north of the lodge is our island's impressive golf course. There is always music on Quadra. The community theatre club has occasional summer presentations, and the beach at Rebecca Spit is world renowned
